Cooksie was a Chicago, Ill., rock band founded by John and Matt Cook. They began making four-track recordings of their songs in 1999, and became a proper band in 2001, when John moved from New York City to Chicago, where Matt lived. John played guitar and sang; Matt played the drums. They wanted to be Merle Haggard, but they also wanted to be Pavement. Cooksie made three records, and John and Matt recorded a fourth under the name Cook Bros., before John moved back to New York City in 2006. None of them were ever released, but they are archived here in their entirety for anybody who cares to listen. Other members of Cooksie have included: Damon Hennessey (guitar), Sean Mulroney (bass), Jason Labrosse (bass), Jack Campbell (bass), Robert Peplin (pedal steel guitar, organ, electric piano), and Mike Coy (guitar and bass). |
